Project handoff: turn the existing BOM into assigned next actions
For project managers, engineering and purchasing
Start with the list you already have. Retain its original line numbers and exact customer wording. Separate a missing value from a technical conflict, and give each unresolved decision an owner.
A practical handoff sequence
- Keep the original BOM, drawings and requested models together.
- Record endpoints, host interfaces and intended operating modes.
- Separate confirmed quantities from quantities still to be decided.
- Assign engineering questions to the technical owner and sourcing questions to purchasing.
- Return one consolidated next-action list to the project contact.
Illustrative open-items review
| Original line | Known information | Open decision / suggested owner |
|---|---|---|
| DEMO-01 | Requested 100G link; planning fields provided in the sample schedule | Engineering: verify host support and exact fiber assembly |
| DEMO-02 | Requested 400G connection; endpoint and quantity missing | Project manager: obtain endpoint configuration; purchasing retains quantity as undecided |
| DEMO-03 | Existing campus switch requires expansion | Engineering: identify chassis/PID, uplink, power and accessory requirements |
Use the working files
Blank link schedule · Filled planning example · BOM open-items sheet · Host checklist · Acceptance record
Track the customer’s requested date separately from a supplier-confirmed date. Record the confirmation source before treating a date, quantity, price or compatibility statement as settled.
One question to start: Can you share the existing BOM or one unresolved line, with the next project decision?
