Bare Networking ICs Need a Different Qualification Package

Keep chip-level and board-level facts separate
A networking IC is a component in a hardware design. A finished adapter adds PCB routing, a PCIe connector, networking cages, power circuitry, firmware configuration, cooling and mechanical retention. Card dimensions, cage type and bracket information therefore cannot be copied onto an IC entry. The product type must be correct before a catalog record is useful.
Use complete ordering identities and source classes
The owner-confirmed technical catalog distinguishes crypto, Multi-Host, host-interface and temperature-grade variants at the complete IC-code level. These details support usable product records even where public documentation is limited. Historical NVIDIA ConnectX-7 briefs independently list MT29108A0-NCCF-NV, MT29108A0-NCCF-NVM and MT29108A0-CCCF-NVM. Their two-port terminology differs from the owner’s up-to-four-port description. Keep bandwidth, PCIe and security fields while resolving the intended port mode; do not force both sources into a single unqualified numeric port count.
Know what public support answers can establish
A NVIDIA forum discussion about ConnectX-6 Lx markings asks whether different ASIC codes are equivalent. The response advises using product specifications and directs detailed ASIC-revision questions to the account team because the information is proprietary. Treat that exchange as evidence of a real selection concern, not a blanket compatibility statement about all suffixes.
Use an OEM example without importing board ratings
H3C’s NIC-ETH641F-LP-2P documentation names MT28942A0-NCCF-AE as its ConnectX-6 Lx chip. This is an independently documented design example for that exact chip identity. The OEM board has two 25GE interfaces and PCIe 4.0 x8, but its 13 W power rating, SFP28 cages and low-profile mechanics belong to the assembled card. They do not establish standalone IC power, package size or connector attributes.
Qualify the missing engineering fields
Before board layout, obtain the applicable package drawing, pinout, power rails, thermal conditions, clocking, port-mode and firmware requirements. For MT29108A0-NCIF-NV, preserve the owner’s explicit crypto-enabled and industrial-temperature designations; neither a suffix-decoding shortcut nor an assumed numeric temperature range is adequate. Keep unknown engineering values unset, use images only at their documented scope, and retain rights checks independently of technical content readiness.
