Description
NVIDIA MMS4A20-XM800 is an 800G DR4 OSFP transceiver with an RHS thermal profile, a single MPO/APC optical interface and up to 500 m reach over single-mode fiber. It uses four 200G optical lanes for InfiniBand XDR; the cited current release tables list the exact part as P-Rel.

Product questions & answers

Is MMS4A20-XM800 an Ethernet optic?

The exact current release rows identify XDR and Ethernet NA. This package makes an XDR InfiniBand claim only.

What is the electrical and optical configuration?

It is a single-port 800G DR4 optic with four 200G-PAM4 lanes and one MPO-12/APC optical connector.

Which host applications are documented?

NVIDIA names ConnectX-8 PCIe and mezzanine applications linking to Quantum-X800 QM3x00 switch-side twin-port optics, with RHS cooling at the server side.

Is XDR400 the same as NDR400?

No. NVIDIA describes XDR400 as two 200G-PAM4 lanes; NDR400 uses four 100G-PAM4 lanes. Equal total rate does not establish optical interoperability.

Can DR4 and FR4 be directly linked?

No. DR4 uses parallel optical channels; FR4 multiplexes wavelengths onto a fiber pair. Match the optical format at both ends.

Is it safe to look into a connected optical port?

No. Never look directly into an energized optical port or connected fiber; its infrared light can be invisible.

What distinguishes XDR signaling from NDR?

XDR uses 200G-PAM4 signaling; NDR uses 100G-PAM4. Equal aggregate bandwidth alone does not establish interoperability.

Does an XDR optic automatically downshift to NDR?

No. NVIDIA places generation compatibility at the switch or adapter; an XDR optic does not independently downshift to 100G-PAM4.
